Don’t Like the Weather? Wait a Minute
Spring weather can be mild - or it can be marked by extremes. One day (or one minute), it can feel like a hot July day. The next, you’re back to February’s chill. Temperature and weather vacillations like this can result in severe weather, including thunderstorms, hailstorms, and tornadoes.
Before you head out on the road, check the forecast. This is especially important if you are going long distances or over roads that are less than ideal - even under ideal conditions! Download a good weather app and/or use a device with an XM satellite weather option. You’ll be able to see where and when weather is coming in, how severe it may be, and alternate routes to help you avoid the worst of it.
Even with planning, it is possible to get caught in bad weather. If you can take cover, do so. This is particularly essential if you encounter hail. Hail can wreak havoc on your vehicle, resulting in dings, dents, and pits. A good place to seek shelter is under the awnings at a gas station or, if you’re in an urban area, in a covered parking structure.
If your visibility is impaired, stop. You may have to wait it out, but that’s preferable to guessing where the road is, damaging your car, and possibly hurting yourself or others.
Remember, in springtime, the weather can change quite quickly. Be prepared to change with it. This may mean leaving extra time for your trip or commute, delaying leaving until it’s cleared up, or seeking a safe place to wait it out. Spring driving can be just as hazardous as winter driving, so always use caution.
What If Spring Storms Damage Your Car?
Whether poor visibility caused a fender bender or collision or a hailstorm did a number on your paint job, it is important to repair any damage as soon as you can. Why? What if it’s minor - and you don’t mind the cosmetic imperfections?
Well, damage to your paint job is not just cosmetic. It can expose the bare metal underneath and leave it vulnerable to rust. Once rust gains a foothold, it can spread mercilessly. In severe cases, you may not be able to make essential repairs due to structural weakness, get your car inspected, or drive it safely.
Contact SRM Paintwerks as soon as possible. We are happy to assess the damage, give you an estimate, and get right to work on your repairs. Spring can be a tempestuous season! Drive safely - and be sure to give us a call if spring has caused some big, dark storm clouds in your life.
